A very busy week for the club with Handicap on Wednesday you can check out the March Handicap Results here and the Club AGM on Thursday where there was some great discussion about the future of the club and the new committee was elected:-
Onto the weekend with the promise of a number off big events for members. Saturday morning started cold but bright but during Parkrun The Beast From The East made a return bringing winter with it. At Parkrun Frimley Lodge Max Woods was the first SJ to finish in 21:19. Behind him a train of Dads; Neil Praine, Stuart Mayes and Richard Boese enjoyed runs with their offspring.
Over at Bracknell the pyjama party was in full swing (although onesies were the best choice given the snow that arrived during the run). A trio of SJs donned their bedwear (or rolled out of bed and headed straight for Parkrun depending how you look at it) and it didn’t slow down Blanche Barnes who amazingly achieved a PB (Pyjama Best) of 28:26!
A hardy trio of SJs descended on Rushmoor with Lou Gubb first home in her first run at the venue. It was an impressive run in challenging conditions as part of a long run. Impressive too from Alurie and Yvette who stayed local and took a break from the Alphabet.
Despite challenging travel conditions there was some Parkrun Tourism both home and away. Lisa Hale and Stuart Overhill made the short trip to Bordon to sample the new Hogmoor Enclosure Parkrun and both finished in the top 20 with Lisa first female. The new course is completely off-road, low key and reminiscent of a Brutal event. Andrea Vincent returned to the venue of her very first Parkrun over four years ago; Alice Holt and went three and a half minutes faster.
George Green made a longer trip to the Eden Project in Cornwall where he enjoyed a wonderful tarmac course which zigzags inside the crater, passing around the Core and in front of the Mediterranean and Rainforest Biome. He achieved his fasted Parkrun for nearly two years with 23:45. George’s son Jon who recently joined Sandhurst Joggers joined him at the Eden Project for his 20th Parkrun and fastest ever with a time of 27:31. well done Jon and welcome to the club!
The snow landed in earnest on Saturday night resulting in the cancellation of both Fleet and Reading Half Marathons which were scheduled for Sunday and had entries from many members.
With EA advising organisers to cancel The Grizzly was left as pretty much the only event still running on a shorter nine mile route which loosely following the ‘Cub’ route. What it lacked in distance it more than made up for in ‘epicness’! We’ll have plenty more from this event later in the week but in the meantime we’ll cover the results and share some pictures. Will Lucas was missed off the SJ results but the Seaton local ran really well to finish in 1:53:28.
The snow did little to freeze members enthusiasm this week and Strava shows eighty-one members logging runs. To take part in this just create a free Strava account and link it to the club in your profile. Here’s the top 10 from last week:-

Monday: Patrick has already announced that the Monday night chatfest will go ahead regardless of snow, so get yourself to Sandhurst Sports Centre for 7:30pm. The route will cover approx. 6 miles and will either be on or of road depending on the ground conditions. This is one of the most sociable runs of the week and a great opportunity to catch up with friends or discuss the preceding weekend. And don’t forget the Monday Mantra ‘Mondays defo make me faster’.
Tuesday Club Run: New Tuesday General members Dave Bartlett and Royston Crandley will be at the helm this week (although they will be ably supported by Monica and Mike). As always there will be multiple groups to cater for all abilities from beginners through to faster and more experienced runners. It’s perfect for novices and those coming back from injury or a long lay-off because you can start with an easy group and work your way upwards. The run leaves from Sandhurst Memorial Park at 6:30pm.
Tuesday Intervals: Later the interval sessions will meet at The TYTHINGS in Yateley at 8pm. The sessions have been split into two groups to provide more specific training for members targeting different distances with one group doing shorter efforts and the other longer durations to build endurance.
Wednesday: Sharon and Andrea are still the General Members for Wednesday and they have some great routes planned for this week. Join them at Sandhurst Memorial Park at 7pm. The 5k to 10k course starts on Wednesday 4th April and will run alongside the Wednesday run.
Thursday: This week the threshold/improvers run will be on the the Coat Hangers route and this week is the paced run week with a range of groups to fit with your ability. Meet at Sandhurst Sports Centre at 7:30pm and don’t forget lights and high vis clothing.
Friday: Track is still free and the coaches have some great sessions planned for all abilities to improve fitness and technique. This is a great way to improve your running form and fitness, get faster and help prevent injury. If you’ve never ran on a track before give it a try, it’s a lot of fun and you are never more than 200m away from the start.
Saturday: Lots of members will be action at Parkrun at 9am on Saturday morning. Don’t forget your barcode!
Sunday: This week is the Canal Run with a number of distance options leaving from Frimley Lodge up the Canal and then turning back at either 5, 7.5 or 10 miles (or further if you really want a long run). This means that total distances will be 10, 15 or 20 miles.
Start times are as follows:-
9.30am – 20 mile run
10.00am – 15 mile run
10.30am – 10 mile run
We are planning to have an “aid” station at the 5 mile point to provide water and perhaps a few sweeties. If you are not planning to run, but able to help out with this then that would be most appreciated. If we get more volunteers then we may even be able to add to the aid stations on route. Afterwards, the plan is to retreat to a local pub for a well earned recovery drink. Respond to the email if you plan to join either as a runner or volunteer.
