Simon has worked his magic quickly so we already have the results of April’s Handicap, held last Wednesday on the Crowthorne circuit starting at the Morgan Rec. A very impressive eighteen people improved their time showing that recent hard work is paying off. Although she claims not to be a fan of ‘Handicap’ that didn’t stop Andrea Vincent running her fastest time ever for a PB and a 2:13 improvement. Patrick Wadsworth took second with a 1:34 improvement of his own ahead of Hannah Glaister who knocked 1:25 off her previous best.
In the series standings, Patrick’s consistent scores carry him to the top of the table with ninety points, four ahead of previous leader and double winner Colin Carpenter. Mike Guess has also been super consistent and he is just a single point behind Colin with fourth placed Gerry Mepham a further point adrift.
This year’s competition is stacking up to be as closely fought as ever. The seven runners who’ve attended all four events are dominating the table as things stand but there are some high scorers who only have two or three counting events and these will be runners to watch out for in the coming months.
The next opportunity to take part will be on Wednesday 9th May. The four mile time trial is run over an undulating two lap course around Crowthorne is ideal for all abilities and starts from the Morgan Rec in Crowthorne at 7:30pm. It’s a great Threshold type training session and ideal to track your progress through the year. The annual competition is calculated on your seven best scores so even if you haven’t taken part at all this year, there is still time to get involved and climb the table.
