The spring marathon season drew to a close but there are no shortage of club events in the coming months. The Events team have already shared details of the numerous relays and other events planned for the summer so let them know which ones you fancy getting involved with. The Intraclub Relay will be held on Tuesday 22nd May and this will be great fun for runners of all abilities so if you’ve never done anything lie this come along and give it a try.
It was a record attendance for parkrun this weekend with over 140,000 people lining up at 9am Saturday at events all around the country.
Our own local event at Rushmoor celebrated its fourth birthday with cake and sunshine and twelve members joined them to partake in both. Gerry Mepham was first member to finish in 20:03 as he recorded his fastest time since 2015. Phil Guy finished just five seconds later. Louisa Enriquez recorded her slowest run as she accompanied her four year old to their fastest.
Over 500 participants at Frimley Lodge with Stuart Mayes the first member into the finish funnel in 23:18. Dave Metcalfe completed his first ever parkrun this weekend.
Nine members ran at Bracknell with regular Patrick Wadsworth leading the SJs home. Nicola Gater completed her first run in over a year and Kate Parker helped her Mum to a huge improvement.
This week saw record SJ parkrun tourism. Lisa Hale and Stuart Overhill joined John Tovell at Crane Park. Mark Pattrick was only 10 seconds shy of his Bushy Park PB. Andy Summerskill ran again at Houghton Hall. Sharon Fields visited Wycombe Rye for the first time to complete her first parkrun since 2015. Dick Newman was at Newbury. Duncan Laurie-Pile ran at Reading now returned to the TVP course. Teresa Milroy and Colin Carpenter were both first timers at Woodley where Colin bagged a season’s best and Teresa her fastest time since 2015. Alurie Dutton ran at Guildford. Yvette Glacken was at home venue Luton Wardown. Sharon Conquer was tail walker at Northampton. Further afield, Simon Whillis ran at Keswick in the Lake District and Graham Robinson finished first at Wetherby parkrun.

Monday: Patrick will be leading the Monday night chatfest from Sandhurst Sports Centre at 7:30pm. The route will cover approx. 6 miles and is very likely to be off road as its the height of bluebell season. This is one of the most sociable runs of the week and a great opportunity to catch up with friends or discuss the preceding weekend. And don’t forget the Monday Mantra ‘Mondays defo make me faster’.
Tuesday Club Run: The Triumvirate of Tuesday General members Monica Burbidge, Dave Bartlett and Royston Crandley will be looking after the biggest club run of the week. As always there will be multiple groups to cater for all abilities from beginners through to faster and more experienced runners. It’s perfect for novices and those coming back from injury or a long lay-off because you can start with an easy group and work your way upwards. The start time is 6:30pm as always, this week from the Sandhurst Memorial Park.
Tuesday Intervals: Later the interval sessions will meet at The Morgan Rec in Crowthorne at 8pm. Tonight’s session is all about ‘Hills’. You can read more about the Tueday night intervals here
Wednesday: It’s the second Wednesday of the month so time for the Handicap. It will be the fourth opportunity of 2018 to improve on your previous times. This four mile run over a two lap course around Crowthorne is ideal for all abilities and starts from the Morgan Rec in Crowthorne at 7:30pm. Don’t forget the post run curry at The Raj in Sandhurst. The 5k to 10k course will be running as usual from Sandhurst Memorial Park at 7pm and its the final week.
Thursday: This week on the threshold/improvers run it is the paced run with a range of groups to fit with your ability. Nikki will confirm the route later in the week. Meet at Sandhurst Sports Centre at 7:30pm and don’t forget lights and high vis clothing.
Friday: Track is still free and the coaches have some great sessions planned for all abilities to improve fitness and technique. This is a great way to improve your running form and fitness, get faster and help prevent injury. If you’ve never ran on a track before give it a try, it’s a lot of fun and you are never more than 200m away from the start.
Saturday: Lots of members will be action at Parkrun at 9am on Saturday morning. Don’t forget your barcode!
Sunday: Anybody not racing can join the crowd running from The Lookout at 9am. It’s a flexible run to suit everybody’s needs and is either adapted to fit with distance targets or multiple groups are formed. The three ‘Cs’ of Coffee, cake and chat are enjoyed in the cafe post-run.
