We already have the results for this month’s Handicap Competition and the annual competition is hotting up alongside the weather! This month nearly half the field posted personal or seasons bests so its really shaken up the table. Blanche Barnes recorded the biggest improvement as she knocked a whopping two minute forty seconds off her previous best time. Kate Parker was only a few seconds behind Blanche to take second. While Lauren Askew, Katy Mead and Sarah Alexander were all over a minute faster than previous efforts. Fastest on the night were Graham Robinson and Mark Fallowfield-Smith who finished together in 25:40
Colin Carpenter produced another great run posting yet another PB but with so many other big improvements it was only good enough for sixth place points. However with many of the other contenders not scoring highly Colin’s result was good enough to take him back to the top of the table with a clear ten point advantage over Patrick Wadsworth and over twenty points ahead of joint third place Graham Robinson and Dave Breslin.
Graham Kelly, Mike Guess and Gerry Mepham are all in a good position as they only have four counting events so far this year. Lauren Askew is also waiting in the wings to climb the table if she can continue to improve. There are still plenty of opportunity for participants to add to their tally and challenge for the podium in this competition which is all about improvement rather than speed.
Its crunch time for anybody who hasn’t ran yet in 2018 and want to figure in the competition as there are only seven rounds remaining and runners can count their best seven scores. So, if you haven’t ran so far in 2018 get yourself down to the Morgan Rec for 7:30pm on Wednesday 13th June and enjoy plenty of support, camaraderie and some great running.
