My Edinburgh Marathon Story. It was the ‘sorry’ magazine I got for London last year that made me apply for this. A little leaflet tucked inside, saying guaranteed place, so I applied. My second marathon. Christmas came and the training programme began. Run, gym, rest, etc, regular massages and before I knew, it was here.
Lining up at the start and I bumped into Andrea, off we go and end up running together. It was great to have company and before we knew, we were half way! A mixture of city centre, residential and seafront running. We saw the leaders heading back and it was here we split. It went ok, it was a there and back race and soon turned to head back, then we were taken off road and onto a gravel track-very difficult to run on, then the sun came out and the temperature rose, the last few miles were tough, hot and lonely and I probably walked a little more than I should’ve!
Where there were crowds, they were very encouraging but certainly not anything like London! A final push and the end was near – 4:40, eight minutes faster than London two years ago! Would I do it again or recommend to others, yes I would! It was very well organised race, both pre-race communications and on the day and just a train ride from Kings Cross!
